I attended a one-day workshop with Jeremy based on the Scaling UP framework in 2019. The way that Jeremy presented the information and real-life examples was refreshing, and made me think about the business model of my company. The old approach that’s common in my industry no longer makes sense in today’s age.
The thought germinated for a year and I reviewed it over another discussion with Jeremy. Eventually, I came up with a new model that shows promise of building a more sustainable recurring revenue stream, which I am excited about and currently working on because it would help me to pivot during the Covid-19 crisis.

Before we took on Scaling UP and Jeremy , we had weekly meetings in departments that could go on for hours and even a whole day. No minutes properly taken and no structure. No chair as such and simply based on an itinerary of everything that happened that week.
Now we have weekly meetings but they are limited to 90 minutes max. We have a dashboard (which we run as a Google sheet) in which every KPI is quantified for the year using specifically ‘action’ based terminology, and then broken down first into 4 separate quarters, and in turn into weekly targets with named responsible people to ensure accountability. Only the department heads can attend this meeting. They have to update their part of the dashboard at least 24 hours before the meeting so the Chair can review their progress.
We use a traffic light system to highlight who is below, on or above target and in turn this helps us to weed out the B or C players as they don’t want to always be in a meeting where they are in the red and they tend to leave of their own accord. This leaves the A-players turning our dashboards Green with success every week!
Just the manpower hours we are saving every week across the Group in a more efficient meeting system with an accountable tracking system has more than covered the cost of the training in the first place.
